DJ Fleg



Biography

Stephen Fleg aka DJ Fleg is a DJ and Bboy from Baltimore, Maryland U.S.A. He has shared the stage with Grandwizard Theodore, the Cold Crush Brothers, Busy Bee, Crazy Legs, Onra, Kon, Teddy Douglas, Rich Medina and Grand Nubian among others. With a background in jazz and classical, Fleg's no stranger to the world of music. He combines formal training with influences from Funk, Disco and Boogie to create his unique sound. In a word- Soulful. Fleg has been touring the entire U.S. for the last 2 years as well as doing many international gigs In places like France, Italy, Korea, and Japan. His specialty is Funk and Breaks; his mixes are played worldwide and he is constantly digging and producing to come up with fresh material for the Bboy and Funk community. His first 45 on the Breaking Bread label came out this year, in 2013.
In addition to his travels, he is actively involved with the bboy and funk community in his hometown of Baltimore. Every month, Fleg and DJ Exclaime throw a funk night that has attracted guests from all over the world ranging from Les Twins to John Waters. He's been throwing the party for over 4 years and is looking to expand and move the party to other cities. When he's not Djing, Fleg is producing music or teaching bboy classes to kids. Despite a rigorous tour schedule, he still practices breaking and you can always catch him in a cypher!

Video 4/12/2014: Words Beats & Life Presents Top Notch – B-boy/B-girl Battle

At 6 p.m., b-boys and b-girls demonstrate their skills in circles and give lessons. Competing for cash prizes, the dance battle’s preliminary rounds begin at 7 p.m. with the final rounds beginning at 8 p.m. The battle, hosted by Silver Spring, Maryland lyricist Trus Real and New York b-boy Kwikstep, includes judges such as hip-hop artist Narumi from Japan, DC area b-boy Toyz aRe Us, and pioneering New York b-girl Rokafella with DJ Fleg and DJ RBI on the turntables. Interested in competing? Registration is at the Kennedy Center in the Grand Foyer beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.  Registration will close promptly at 3:30 p.m. Part of One Mic: Hip-Hop Culture Worldwide.
