Frost Middle School Symphonic Orchestra

The Frost Symphonic Orchestra is one of four ensembles in the Frost Middle School Orchestra program.  Totaling 160 7th and 8th grade students, the groups range in experience and ability from beginner to advanced.

Representing the most advanced performers in the program, Symphonic Orchestra students have been playing for 3 to 10 years, with approximately half studying privately.  Performing in a wide variety of styles, these young musicians also participate in District Honors Orchestra, District Solo and Ensemble Festival, and local youth orchestras.

Under the direction of Kathy Thompson since 2009, Frost Symphonic Orchestra has received Superior ratings at district assessments and Grand Champion at Musicale competitions.  In 2012, they were invited to perform for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ Inauguration Ceremony.   Most recently, the orchestra was selected to perform at the Virginia Music Educators Association state conference at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia in November 2013.
