Donald Junker Jazz Quintet

Biography

Don Junker was born in 1938 in Detroit, Michigan, where he studied piano and trumpet. His major influences were multi-instrumentalists Bill Prince and Terry Harrington. His decision to enter the US Navy program proved to be a nice way to see the world and play music at the same time. Upon retiring from the Navy Band in Washington DC in 1977, he joined the Bill Potts Band and performed with Gladys Knight, the Temptations, Four Tops and the O-Jays.

The Don Junker Big Band was formed in 1995 strictly as a rehearsal band but soon got the itch to record a cd. The result was very good, as the cd made the Grammy list along with Count Basie, Woody Herman and others. Not too bad for a first recording! Don is also the musical director and lead trumpet of La Jazz, a Latin jazz band.
