Founded in 2009 and based in Howard County, Maryland, the Gina Ling Chinese Dance Chamber is committed to promoting Chinese classical, folk, and minority nationality dance and performing arts. The group has performed at various dance venues, arts festivals, community cultural and special events. Through hard work and dedication the dancers grace the stage with spectacular performances and dazzling costumes. Though a relatively young dance troupe, they have received numerous accolades from diverse audiences in the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area. The founder and artistic director, Gina Ling, grew up in Beijing, China. She moved to the U.S. in 1992 to pursue a Ph.D. in geophysics at the University of Hawaii. During graduate school, she started studying Chinese dance under professor Youlan Liu, a legendary Beijing Dance Academy expert, and with Chinese dance scholar Diane Letoto. Dr. Ling has performed, taught, and choreographed Chinese dance for more than 20 years. Her passion for Chinese dance has inspired several generations of young students. Her dance group has won many top awards in “Star Power” Dance competitions, and she has twice received a best choreographer award. In her day job, she is a member of the Senior Professional Staff at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
