Karen Reedy Dance

Karen Reedy Dance (KRD) embodies the creative spirit and elegant grace that make dance a transformative art form. KRD is a professional contemporary dance company committed to strengthening the presence and integrity of dance in the Washington DC metropolitan area and beyond. The company is devoted to nurturing artists through the exploration of new work and collaboration with other art forms, in both traditional live performance and site-specific venues, and looking towards the evolution of performance. In the community, KRD provides opportunities for education, awareness and appreciation of contemporary dance. Believing that dance should not be an exclusive art form, KRD pursues opportunities to reach all community members. The mission of Karen Reedy Dance is to enrich the community's culture through live modern dance performance and education. Performing a diverse range of repertory, this company aims to create an environment to celebrate, nurture and promote the artistic field of dance. The director of the company is Karen Reedy, an artist who worked with world-renowned choreographers and teachers such as Mark Morris, Benjamin Harkarvy and Robert Battle. In 2006, Ms. Reedy relocated from New York City to Alexandria, VA to establish KRD.

The artists of Karen Reedy Dance grace the stage with musicality, humanity, athleticism and virtuosic talent. KRD will perform selections from the company's diverse repertory. Have you ever wondered what happens when a portrait comes to life? Variations is inspired by the range of moods and personalities found within the piano score of Mozart Variations in D Major, performed by Laurie Bunn. The characters found within the dance range from sentimental to exuberant and flirtatious to heartbroken. Shattered Illusions is a group work inspired by chaos and distortion. The seven dancers are driven through an emotionally charged storm. The program will also include Hands choreographed by Elizabeth Shea and performed by Constance Dinapoli, In Someone Else's Dream choreographed and performed by Karen Reedy and the premiere of a duet performed by Daniel Zook and Melissa Liu.
