Daniel Bernard Roumain’s musical diversity has allowed him to work not only as a composer, but as a performer, violinist, and bandleader. Roumain melds his classical music roots with hip hop and Haitian influences. His compositions have been performed by chamber ensembles and full orchestras, and have inspired the work of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and tap dancer Savion Glover. Roumain has worked with a variety of artists, including Philip Glass, Cassandra Wilson, and DJ Spooky, and his work has been commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music. A musical master, Roumain’s work ranges from classical to jazz one moment, and electronic to ambient noise the next. Part of CrossCurrents: Contemporary Music Week.
