Washington International Piano Festival

Biography

Washington International Piano Festival (WIPF) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the performance and teaching of classical music at the highest standard. The goal of the festival is to provide the best learning experience for young aspiring concert pianists, teachers, amateurs, and piano lovers of all ages by combining an intensive educational program with an outstanding concert series. All participants have the opportunity to work with prominent piano pedagogues in daily one-on-one private lessons and to participate in recitals, educational workshops, lectures, and master classes that focus on both piano solo and piano ensemble repertoire.

In addition to presenting some of the best internationally-renowned pianists in recital, WIPF offers the Young Pianist Showcase concert series. These 30-minute concerts, preceding the guest artists' evening concerts, feature an array of extraordinarily talented and prizewinning young pianists living and studying in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

During its last three editions WIPF welcomed more than 100 participants, faculty, and guest artists from all over the world including Japan, China, Korea, Singapore, Australia, Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Italy, and the U.S. This year the festival welcomed 42 participants (all levels and ages) and 11 world-renowned faculty/guest-artists from Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, Puerto Rico, and 13 U.S. states. Each and every one has made the festival one of the most successful additions to Washington, D.C.’s summer cultural life.

The Fourth Annual Washington International Piano Festival runs from
July 29-August 4, 2012 and will take place at Catholic University of America and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
