Lana Berakovic



Biography

Lana Berakovic (violoncello) was born in 1987 in Zagreb, Croatia. At the age of six she was admitted to the class of the renowned cellist Valter Despalj, who remained her teacher until 2008. She then continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Kerstin Feltz. Lana attended numerous master classes by Orfeo Mandozzi, Rudolf Leopold, Mario Brunello and Dimitry Ferschtman. She won several national and international awards, including the first prize at the Croatian National Violoncello Competition, as well as the second prize at the International Music Competition in Gorizia, Italy. She performed as a soloist in Austria, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia and as a member of the ensemble Cellomania in Moscow, Vienna, Paris and Amsterdam, as well as at summer festivals in Croatia and Slovenia.

Violin and piano duo Lana Berakovic and Maija Karklina will introduce children and their families to the world of classical music as part of the Kids Euro Festival, one of the largest performing arts festivals for children in America. For their first performance in the U.S., the two musicians travel all the way from Austria, home to world-famous composers like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Arnold Schönberg, and Johann Strauss. The duo belongs to the ensemble of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria’s oldest university of music.
