Frog Hammer

Biography

Frog Hammer exploded on the Washington, DC area traditional dance scene in 2010 with the arrival of Glyn Collinson, an Englishman raised in the electric atmosphere of modern English ceilidh music and dance.

Currently with six musicians, the band has played for boisterous ceilidh dances in Capitol Hill pubs,  contra dances in the Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom, and East Coast dance weekends, with music drawing from the English ceilidh and American contra dance repertoire, with occasional stops in the world of jazz, rock and pop music.

Frog Hammer has appeared regularly at DC area folk festivals and both organized and headlined a 2013 English ceilidh extravaganza at Blob’s Park in Jessup, Maryland.  Dubbed “everyone’s favorite rambunctious bad boy band,”  Frog Hammer currently features squeezeboxes, drums, a horn section,  bouzouki and electric guitar, as well as vocals by Glyn Collinson.  The band has worked with top callers who teach and call both American contra and English ceilidh dances.
