The Mass Transit Band was established by an ensemble of eight Metro employees in 2009 after many years of performing at Metro in-house events. Members of Mass Transit are not only Metro employees but, are also accomplished musicians in their own right, performing and recording individually with many nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. The band members’ combined length of service at Metro totals 86 years.
Marilyn Ashford-Brown, employed with Metro for 32 years, works in the Automatic Train Control Division. While at Metro, Marilyn has continued to pursue her singing career, sharing the stage and recording with legendary artists Phyllis Hyman, Lou Rawls, Grover Washington, Jr. and Patti LaBelle. She performs regularly at DC’s Blues Alley and frequently performs in Europe and the UK. Marilyn’s fifth CD will be released spring 2012.
Angela Gordon, employed with Metro for one year, works in the Communications Division. Angela is a DC native with deep roots in the local gospel scene and a long history of performances at local venues and houses of worship. Angela is a background vocalist with international recording artist Kevin Levar & One Sound and with her family singing group, the Tree of Life Ministries. Angela presents her first one-woman show at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center’s Live! Sound Stage summer 2011.
Monic Morgan, employed with Metro for six years, currently works in the Operations Division. Since a child, Monic has sung in choirs and has won numerous local and national choral and solo competitions. Monic currently sings in the Ebenezer AME Church Choir and performs regularly at special events in the Metropolitan DC area.
Barbara Green, employed with Metro for 20 years, works in the Plant Maintenance Division. Since the age of 9, Barbara has sung with her family gospel groups, The Evangelist Green and Glory Land Singers. Barbara frequently performs at special events and at local jazz venues and churches in the Washington, DC area.
