REVISION dance collaborative is a contemporary modern dance company which aims to engage audiences of all ages in critical thinking about social issues that surround our everyday lives. We create work that stimulates our audiences to become more actively aware of their responsibilities as participants in their communities. We challenge our dancers to learn and become part of the choreographic process by continually looking at the movement from a fresh, critical perspective and having the ability to understand how a dancer’s role in society affects his or her role as a performing artist. REVISION offers residencies, workshops, performances, lecture/demonstrations, and a weekly company class at Dance Place.
About the Co-Directors: Valerie Branch graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland College Park (2008) with a Bachelor Degree in dance, and had wonderful experiences dancing under the direction of its faculty and guest artists. Valerie is thrilled to be part of the Dance Place family and working side by side with Shannon Quinn as Co-Director of the Next Generation Youth Programs and REVISION dance collaborative. Valerie is in her first season with Alight Dance Theater as an adjunct artist, executive director and company member of Connecting Vibes USA and enjoys being part of the growing and creative process with all of the companies in which she is involved. Valerie is also on the dance teacher faculty at New Hope Academy in Lanham, MD. Valerie has toured as a performing and teaching artist and as a lecturer and mentor both nationally and internationally to such places as Washington, D.C. and other metropolitan areas including Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, South Africa, and Grenada. Valerie believes in the importance of sharing the culture of the performing arts with under-served youth and adults alike to enhance their growth and development within their communities.
