Biography

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Wind Ensemble is comprised of exceptional woodwind, brass, and percussion students who enjoy the challenge of performing wind band literature.  The students are music majors, music minors, and non-majors all of whom are dedicated to the wind band repertoire.  The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Richard Spece and performs regularly throughout the academic year.  They are a regionally recognized ensemble and have been invited to perform at the Maryland Music Educator's Association Conference in Baltimore, MD in February 2012.  The UMBC Wind Ensemble performs music of all styles including the music from the large military tradition such as Gustav Holst along with the chamber wind pieces of Mozart and Mendelssohn.  They are also dedicated to the research and performance of the music of our time, actively commissioning and presenting new works for the wind band medium.
