Elijah Balbed & The JoGo Project

Elijah Jamal Balbed is a composer, educator, award-winning Saxophonist, and Washington, DC native known for his involvement with Jazz music as well as DC's indigenous genre - Go-Go. Elijah's love for Go-Go came from performing with the late, great Godfather of Go-Go Chuck Brown (2011-2012). Since Mr. Brown's passing, Elijah has been dedicated to preserving and promoting Go-Go music. In 2014, The JoGo Project was formed and over the last 4 years the band has taken their Jazz/Go-Go fusion sound all over the DMV area, to New York, North Carolina, and most recently on a cultural diplomacy tour to Russia on behalf of the U.S. State Department. Video 12/31/2018: Elijah Jamal Balbed & JoGo and Wesley Bright & The Honeytones

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at 6 p.m. with a performance by Wesley Bright and the Honeytones, a soul band from the funky rubber city of Akron, Ohio. Later that evening, join D.C.’s own The JoGo Project  as part of the New Year’s Eve Grand Foyer Party. The JoGo Project’s  genre-blending ensemble is inspired by the musical stylings of Chuck Brown,  and continues his tradition of taking jazz standards, covers, and even movie/television themes, and putting them over a Go-Go beat. The group will perform on the Millennium Stage at 10 p.m., in addition to more music from Wesley Bright and the Honeytones.

This performance will be open captioned.

Admission to the 10 p.m. show is only permitted with a ticket from another show in the building or a receipt from dinner inside the building. Both groups will perform on the Millennium Stages leading up to the countdown and midnight balloon drop. Guests can also enjoy champagne bars and a photo booth.
