Video 11/14/2015: Target Family Night: Top Notch 2015

Top Notch 2015 is a 3v3 b-boy competition and part of the annual Words Beats & Life teach-in, Remixing the Art of Social Change, representing a continued investment to engage in hip-hop. Registration begins at 1 and prelims begin at 2.

Top Notch 2015 is a One Mic Production, which is hip-hop–based, urban, youth-driven programming focused on changing society through the arts.

Video 9/22/2015: James A. Johnson Young Artist Series: "The Jam Session"

This performance, as part of the James A. Johnson Young Artist Series, made possible by Target, showcases some of the District's most talented young DJs, MCs, poets, hip-hop dancers, B-boy and B-girl apprentice students from the Words Beats & Life Academy. The ongoing series will showcase exemplary, local youth from representative Kennedy Center Partnership Schools in Washington, D.C. and collaborating youth organizations. Presented in collaboration with Words Beats & Life.

Poets and MCs in this city-wide spoken-word and rap competition face off for college scholarships. Presented in collaboration with Words Beats & Life and The Diamond Cutter DJs.

Writer, director, and performer Holly Bass hosts an event celebrating the Kennedy Center’s “What's Going On…NOW” campaign, featuring members of the DC Slam Team, a group comprised of local spoken word artists, and Words, Beats, and Life, an organization that works to transform individual lives and communities through hip hop.
