Biography

The Kearsney College Choir has become synonymous with performance excellence, audience appeal and critical acclaim. With its signature blend of classical, pop and indigenous music, the choir has a growing international following with supporters from the U.S.A., Asia, Europe and the rest of Africa. The choir boasts with a long list of accolades to its name, including 7 Gold medals and 6 Silver medals at the World Choir Games (the Olympics for Choirs) between 2000 and 2010. The choir was awarded the “Prize of the City of Vienna” at the 33rd International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna as well as First Prizes in various international choral competitions in Hong Kong, Germany and Austria. The choir undertakes an international tour every second year. Recent tours include Germany/Netherlands (2004), China/Hong Kong (2006), Austria/Greece (2008), Japan/Taiwan/China (2010). In 2012, the choir will be competing for the title of Olympic Champion at the 7th World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio. The choir is actively involved in community work and raising funds and awareness for Charity organizations. Recent beneficiaries/partners include The Sunflower Fund, The Rotary Club (Kloof), The Christmas Fair Fund, The Rob Roy Retirement home, The Hillcrest Aids Centre, the Ingane Yami Children’s Village, and The Watoto Children’s Village/Foundation. Being a multi-faceted and multi-cultural entity within the College, the choir is an important ambassador for Kearsney College, as well as the Zulu Kingdom and the Rainbow Nation (South Africa) as a whole. Their commitment to perform and promote the indigenous music of our country and the rest of the continent is a clear indication of the passion and pride they have for their African heritage.
