Sara Cooper


Sara Cooper is a playwright-lyricist and librettist. Recent awards she has received include the Queens Council on the Arts grant (2016); the New York State Council on the Arts Individual Theatre Artist Commission (2015); and the Jonathan Larson Grant, American Theatre Wing (2014). Highlights of her works include the United Kingdom premiere of The Memory Show with New Bard Productions in London (2016), Elevator Heart with Tisch New Musicals Workshop (2016); her musical Things I Left On Long Island (2016), Things I Left on Long Island with FringeNYC (2014); Loving Leo with Weston Playhouse (2013), Windows with American Opera Projects (2013); The Tenth Floor (book only) with the New York Musical Theatre Festival, Next Link Project (2010); Emergency Contraception with Theater for the New City (2007); and We Love You, Johnny Hero with the New York International Fringe Festival (2006). Sara’s songs and short pieces have been featured in concerts and festivals around New York City and across the country, most recently at Prospect Theatre Company and The Future Is Female Festival. She has also taught at institutions such as New York University, Purchase College, Montclair State University, CUNY Guttman Community College, and Lincoln Center. Ms. Cooper is an MFA Graduate of Musical Theatre Writing Department, Tisch School of the Arts and is a part of the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP.
