Marcel Khalifé's Salute was premiered at the Inaugural Concert of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra on October 30, 2008.

Salute calls for another percussion instrument, the tabla, also called darbukkah or derbouka. This is a hand-drum, usually conical or vase-shaped, and may be made of pottery or metal.
