About

The Tallis Scholars
Peter Phillips, Director

"Through their long career, the Scholars have cultivated…a blend that adroitly balances each of the voices and creates an Apollonian sonic sheen."
--The Boston Globe

For more than 40 years, The Tallis Scholars has celebrated the rich legacy of Renaissance vocal music, and the ensemble brings its artistry to the Fortas series for the first time. It performs music by Thomas Tallis--from whom the ensemble takes its name--and Tallis's contemporary John Sheppard. Three works by Arvo Pärt, one of today's most renowned composers, complement the music by the earlier composers and showcase a different element of the art of a cappella singing.

Performance Timing: Part One - 39 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 37 min.
