The Thymos Quartet made its Kennedy Center debut during the 2012 festival Music of Budapest, Prague, and Vienna, with the Washington Post calling them "an ensemble of exceptional musical imagination and skill." Founded in in 2001 to share intense moments of music with wide audiences, the quartet stems from the meeting of four musicians who won Distinction Prizes at both the Paris and Lyon music conservatories.

For their Kennedy Center return, Thymos has chosen music of Schubert, the "Rosamunde" Quartet and the beloved "Trout" quintet, which bookend Olivier Dejours's String Quartet 17 ("A Winter's Tale"). NSO and Kennedy Center Music Director Christoph Eschenbach, who has mentored and encouraged the ensemble since their founding, is at the piano, with Yann Dubost playing the double bass.

Performance Timing: Part One - 50 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 40 min.
