About

Latvian violinist Baiba Skride--praised for her "passionate and risk-taking" (The Guardian) performances--makes her NSO debut in Prokofiev's First Violin Concerto, a lyrical work with several unusual components, including flip-flopped movements and a virtuosic turn that musically sets the soloist as a partner with the orchestra, not counter to it.

"A genius of the push and pull of symphonic momentum" (The Herald), Neeme Järvi returns to also conduct Sibelius's Symphony No. 2 and the first NSO performances of Eller's Five Pieces for String Orchestra.

Performance Timing: Part One - 36 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 43 min.

Note: Baiba Skride will sign CDs following every concert performance (Jan. 14, 15, 16) in the Grand Foyer outside the Concert Hall.
