Christoph Eschenbach concludes the NSO's classical season with a program of Haydn's exuberant "Oxford" Symphony, plus Mozart's A Little Night Music, Wagner's Prelude to The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, and R. Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 1 featuring NSO Principal Horn Abel Pereira.

NSO Music Director Gianandrea Noseda's notes on the program:
"Eine kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music), one of Mozart’s most well-known works, opens these concerts that conclude both Eschenbach’s late-season trio of programs and the NSO’s 2017–2018 season as a whole. The featured concerto in this installment is Strauss’s First Horn Concerto, which the young composer wrote for his father. Though the piece proved too difficult for its dedicatee to perform, our own talented Abel Pereira is certainly up to the task! As it happens, Abel was hired by Eschenbach, and I am certain that the pair will demonstrate a wonderful artistic partnership as this concerto unfolds.
Eschenbach continues with Haydn’s “Oxford” Symphony, an exuberant effort that cemented the composer’s fame in London. The symphony takes its nickname for the honorary degree Haydn received from Oxford University, which would ultimately be his most cherished award. Eschenbach concludes his program with Wagner’s Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. This particularly meditative work speaks, I think, to the dawn of the new relationship that Eschenbach will continue to have with the NSO—and I look forward to his ongoing contributions as the Orchestra looks toward its future."
