San Francisco Symphony
Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor
Sasha Cooke, mezzo-soprano
Simon O'Neill, tenor

Following 2015's performance with the New World Symphony, Michael Tilson Thomas returns to Washington with his signature ensemble, the San Francisco Symphony, for a program of Schubert and Mahler. Grammy Award-winner Sasha Cooke and Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions finalist Simon O'Neill, both known for their interpretations of the late Romantic repertoire, join the orchestra for Das Lied von der Erde, a work that Leonard Bernstein, Tilson Thomas's mentor, called Mahler's greatest symphony.
"There aren't many musical sure bets these days as sure as a Mahler symphony from Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony." – The San Francisco Chronicle
