Bold interpretations...large-scale stagings...dynamic movement. Under the leadership of Artistic Director John Neumeier for the past 30 years, The Hamburg Ballet has built a reputation as a company with a flair for drama and originality, as well as dazzling technical wizardry.

The Hamburg Ballet makes its Kennedy Center debut with a full- length Neumeier original, Nijinsky, based on the life and legend of one of the most exceptional artists of our century. Inspired by the character and destiny of Vaslav Nijinsky, this “gripping” (The Independent, London) work celebrates Nijinsky as an extraordinary artist and mysterious human being. Two major works form the musical basis of the ballet: Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic poem Scheherazade and Shostakovich’s Eleventh Symphony. “Surely the most ambitious project in the ballet world in recent years” (Dance Magazine), the ballet begins with Nijinsky’s final public performance in a hotel in St. Moritz, Switzerland, providing glimpses of his uncanny virtuosity and tracing his tragic descent into madness.

Performances will be with live orchestra.

Standing Room tickets for presentations in the Opera House, Eisenhower Theater and Terrace Theater will be sold at the Kennedy Center Box Office and by phone (202) 467-4600 or (800) 444-1324 when a performance sells out, but only if it is sold out. There is no limit per purchase.

PLEASE NOTE: All special ticket offers for Kennedy Center productions are subject to availability, are not valid in combination with any other offer, and are not valid on previously purchased tickets.
