"A visually mesmerizing spectacle… an extraordinary physical production that dazzles us with imagery"--The Kansas City Star
Over the holidays, the Kennedy Center glows with the joys of the season as families come together for one of our most popular annual traditions. Continuing our presentations of some of America's best Nutcrackers, this year's version is a truly opulent D.C. premiere.
From the moment we meet toymaker Drosselmeier in his workshop, the elaborate sets, sparkling costumes, and impressive choreography will take your breath away. All of your favorite moments are here: the grand pas de deux between the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, the battle between the Nutcracker Prince and villainous Mouse King, and of course the parade of international dances in the Land of the Sweets. Plenty of inventive twists also abound, from a toy bear that comes to life and a grandfather with Hip Hop moves to a line of giant Russian nesting dolls.
As with every Nutcracker, dozens of local children will take the stage--this year portraying adorable bunnies, lambs, dolls, soldiers, and angels. Still others will lend their voices to the glistening Snow Scene. It all adds up to a delicious ballet feast impossible to resist!
