About

All-male dance company Black Grace boasts some of New Zealand's finest and most respected contemporary dancers. With predominantly Pacific Island and Maori members, this company is renowned for their unique ability to combine their traditional and contemporary dance forms.

One of New Zealand's most accomplished choreographers, Artistic Director Neil Ieremia brings to Black Grace an abiding belief in three key Samoan principles--Fa'amaoni (integrity, honesty, and pride), Fa'amalosi/Loto Tele (perseverance and determination), and Fa'aloalo (humility and respect). These principles translate into an explosive mix of rhythm, spirit, and energy on stage. Black Grace makes its Kennedy Center debut with an exciting mixed repertory program.

"A strikingly imaginative fusion of traditional Samoan/Maori dance and contemporary styles that was marked by breathtaking athletic virility and heartfelt directness"
