Ohad Naharin, Artistic Director
"Sadeh21 is contemporary dance at its most bare, raw, and intimate."--Toronto Standard
"An absolute thrill to watch"--The Guardian (London)
Last seen at the Kennedy Center a decade ago, Israel's acclaimed Batsheva Dance Company--which once enlisted Martha Graham as its first artistic advisor--marks its return with one of Artistic Director Ohad Naharin's newest works. One of today's preeminent choreographers, Naharin's dances "conjure a soulful blur of humor, sensuality, and grit" (The New York Times). To each of his works, he brings "Gaga," a language of movement and approach to training that "sensitizes the body to its deepest impulses, to free it to move with precision but also extraordinary fluidity, as if every part is involved or connected" (Toronto Star).
Created in collaboration with Batsheva dancers, Sadeh21 is a voyage of striking stage imagery. The magnetic performance creates a thick emotional resonance that echoes throughout the work. "We can simply allow the work's deep sensuality to carry us," says Ballet Magazine. "Without conforming his style and way of thinking in any way, Ohad Naharin's oeuvre continues to provoke reflection and involvement and…to bewitch."
Performance Timing: 75 minutes, with no intermission.
