About

"I've got my Messiah tickets," you happily tell your friends... but which Messiah are you going to hear? The sing-along? The one that features a cast of thousands? The Mozart version? The complete 3-hour version? The Christmas-only version? Or maybe the 2008 version as a "rock oratorio"? If you're a fan of this wonderful Christmas classic, join lecturer Yvonne Caruthers for this fun-filled presentation with Messiah trivia and tales. After learning about the 19th century Messiah extravaganzas, the different instruments used in various performances, the great (and not-so-great) conductors, the legendary mishaps, and more, you'll see this perennial favorite in a whole new light!

Yvonne Caruthers, in addition to performing with the National Symphony Orchestra, presents multimedia programs throughout the Washington region. She is a frequent lecturer at the Smithsonian and Kennedy Center, where she presents seminars on music-related topics. At the Kennedy Center, she has presented lectures on several composers, including Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Prokoviev, and Debussy. Note: The NSO does not perform in this event.
