About

That all of German music reflected Wagner's achievements in Tristan und Isolde and Parsifal is no surprise, but the reverberations in the French music of Debussy and the Italian music of Puccini are equally as notable. Wagner's profound influence also extended beyond the music world. Famed German novelists, English and Irish masters, the French Symbolist school--all were disciples of Richard Wagner. Even the Viennese psychiatric community around Sigmund Freud felt the influence. Listening to the music and reading the poetry and prose, Saul Lilienstein probes the incredible impact Wagner had on the artistic generations that followed.
