About

As a prelude to the presentation of Nathaniel Stookey’s Junkestra, a composition played with instruments made of objects scavenged from the San Francisco Dump, audiences will have an opportunity to use their own creative energies to create repurposed objects into art. John Bertles, Kennedy Center Teaching Artist and co-founder of Bash the Trash Environmental Arts LLC, presents this hands-on workshop in which participants build their own musical instruments out of recycled materials.  Appropriate for adults and supervised children ages 12+.

Please Note: Due to the structure of this workshop, late entry will be permitted only at the discretion of the workshop leader.

Because this event involves physical activity and working with tools, all participants will be required to sign a waiver form prior to participating (see waiver form below). Please review this form prior to purchasing tickets and bring a signed copy with you to the workshop. Waiver forms will also be available at the door.

This event is held in a wheelchair-accessible venue. Please contact the Accessibility Office at 202-416-8727 (voice) or access@kennedy-center.org to request an accommodation for a participant with a disability.
