Commended worldwide for its mastery of a diverse repertoire spanning the Baroque to the contemporary, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble is considered by many to be New York's preeminent chamber group. Founded in 1974 at the Church of Saint Luke-in-the-Fields in Greenwich Village, the ensemble currently consists of 21 virtuoso artists who together form the artistic nucleus of the Orchestra of St. Luke's, one of the world's leading chamber orchestras. The St. Luke's collective has produced more than 70 recordings, among them three Grammy Award®–winning collaborations. For its Kennedy Center debutand in celebration of 30 years of performanceSt. Luke's Chamber Ensemble displays its "fresh and invigorating" (The New York Times) style with five masterworks by Johann Sebastian Bach, to include the fifth of his six spirit-lifting Brandenburg Concertos, composed for flute, violin, and harpsichord.
