About

Only D.C. Engagement This Season

"The Guarneri has no superior on the world's stages."
--The New York Times

"Fills the Terrace Theater with as much passion as it can hold"
--The Washington Post

Among the most revered and enduring quartets in the world, the Guarneri String Quartet has been a perennial joy for listeners for more than 40 years. In its only Washington performance this season, the group begins with Bartók's ravishing String Quartet No. 2--which in three movements flows from pensive folk-like themes to swirling Arabian influences to desolate expressions of despair. The Guarneri also performs one of Haydn's string quartets featuring a delightful display of tricks with rhythm and tone, and Smetana's autobiographical String Quartet No. 1.
