Part of Chamber Music Across America
American mezzo-soprano and star of the opera stage Joyce Castle celebrates her ruby anniversary in 2010. To commemorate her 40th anniversary season, Castle, "with her large mezzo and clean delivery" (Opera News), and the Orchestra of St. Luke's Chamber Music unite to play a new vocal chamber work written for them by National Medal of Arts and Pulitzer Prize–winning composer William Bolcom. The program also features Beethoven's groundbreaking Septet.
The Orchestra of St. Luke's Chamber Music consists of 22 virtuoso artists dedicated to the mastery of a diverse repertoire spanning the Baroque to the contemporary. Founded in 1974, the ensemble is also the artistic core of the Orchestra of St. Luke's, one of America's foremost chamber orchestras. The ensemble is a showcase of chamber music's hallmark collaborative spirit, garnering consistent critical acclaim for vibrant music-making of the highest order.
Note: Due to a scheduling conflict, William Bolcom will not be playing piano in this engagement.
