Jazz veterans Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, George Cables, Cecil McBee, Victor Lewis, David Weiss, and Craig Handy forge a world-class union in their debut for the Kennedy Center as The Cookers. This exciting all-star septet summons up an aggressive mid '60s spirit on its 2010 recording Warriors (Jazz Legacy Productions), a potent collection of expansive post-bop originals with pyrotechnic playing from of some of the heaviest hitters on the scene today. Collectively, Harper (saxophone), Henderson (trumpet), Weiss (trumpet), Handy (saxophone), Cables (piano), McBee (bass) and Lewis (drums) have more than 250 years of experience playing on more than 1,000 recordings--collaborating along the way with just about every jazz master from Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis, and Horace Silver to Dizzy Gillespie, Shirley Horn, and Art Blakey, among others. Rarely do schedules allow for an all-star group such as The Cookers to perform together, breaking away from their own respective groups based in New York.
