Saturday, October 13, 2012 9:30 PM

A genre-defying band that fits as comfortably in the jazz world as the jam band world, Medeski Martin & Wood features John Medeski on piano, Billy Martin on drums, and Chris Wood on bass.

The Kennedy Center is proud to present a new performance space, housed in the Center's Atrium. The Supersized Jazz Club features a dance floor, sofas, chairs, and open seating.
For more than 20 years, Medeski Martin & Wood--John Medeski (keyboards), Billy Martin (drums), and Chris Wood (bass)--have blended musical elements into a mixture all their own. For this performance they will return to their more acoustic roots. At a MMW concert, they may play music tinged with jazz, hip hop, and New Orleans funk at one turn, switching to strains of Middle Eastern music, or even reggae, at the next. The genre-defying band is as likely to play a John Zorn composition as a Jimi Hendrix tune and keeps things "fresh by changing up the formula or appearing in various guises" (The New York Times).

Performance Timing:  Approximately 85 minutes, with no intermission.
