"The KLR players are superstars of the chamber music world"
--The Washington Post
The founding members of the Kennedy Center's Chamber Ensemble in Residence, Joseph Kalichstein, Jaime Laredo, and Sharon Robinson form one of the country's foremost trios, leading the Washington Post to say, "Among the superstars of the chamber music world, few induce as much open-mouthed rapture." Since making their debut at the White House for President Carter's Inauguration in January 1977, they have set the standard for performance of the piano trio literature.
For their annual appearance on the Fortas series, they bring the Washington premiere of André Previn's Piano Trio No. 2, written for them in 2011 and described by Robinson as "sparkling and beautiful. [It] could even have audience members whistling as they exit the auditorium." It is framed by Beethoven's G major Trio, Op. 1, No. 2, which he wrote at the age of 22 while studying with Haydn, and Mendelssohn's brooding and passionate Trio in C minor.

Performance Timing: Part One - 50 min.; Intermission - 15 min.; Part Two - 30 min.
