"Among the superstars of the chamber music world, few induce as much open-mouthed rapture."
--The Washington Post
The Kennedy Center's Chamber Ensemble in Residence, Joseph Kalichstein, Jaime Laredo, and Sharon Robinson form one of the country's foremost trios, leading the Washington Post to say, following their April 2013 Fortas concert, "If you missed this performance, you should regret it bitterly for the rest of your life."
For their annual appearance on the Fortas series, the trio opens with Beethoven's "Kakadu" Piano Trio, followed by the rarely played Dvorák early G minor Trio, an emotional statement written after the death of a daughter that is tinged with deep tragedy, but nevertheless imbued with his typical folksy simplicity. The program concludes with Tchaikovsky's momentous Trio, one of his most affecting works.
Note: Members of the Trio will sign CDs following the performance, in the States Gallery outside the Terrace Theater.
Program and Notes
The Fortas Chamber Music Concerts are supported by generous contributors to the
Abe Fortas Memorial Fund, and by a major gift to the fund
from the late Carolyn E. Agger, widow of Abe Fortas.
