Drummer Nate Smith makes his KC Jazz Club debut with his own group, Kinfolk, having recently served as faculty leader for the Kennedy Center career development program Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead. Born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, Smith was influenced early on by funk, rock, R&B, and soul. His career as a drummer, bandleader, composer, songwriter, and producer has him touring worldwide performing with the likes of Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Regina Carter, and Lionel Loueke, among others.
