The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio is the Kennedy Center's Chamber Ensemble in Residence. This Fortas season, the spotlight is on their individual talents. Pianist Joseph Kalichstein and violinist Jaime Laredo join forces with the Shanghai String Quartet for Chausson's Concert for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet, a unique masterpiece that is an opulent double concerto for violin and piano, full of both passion and tenderness, virtuosic yet intimate, with the quartet acting as both orchestra and an equal chamber partner.

Acclaimed for the heartfelt intensity and technical mastery of his playing, Kalichstein enthralls audiences throughout the United States and Europe. Through concerts in thirty plus countries on five continents, and in more than 40 recordings, Laredo has won the hearts of millions with performances of style and passion. Kalichstein and Laredo perform Beethoven's sunny Sonata No. 5 in F major for Violin and Piano.

Renowned for its passionate musicality, impressive technique, and multicultural innovations, the Shanghai Quartet has become one of the world's foremost chamber ensembles. Its elegant style melds the delicacy of Eastern music with the emotional breadth of Western repertoire, allowing it to traverse musical genres. The Quartet is showcased in the Ravel String Quartet, the composer's lone work for that medium, one of centerpieces of twentieth-century chamber music.

Performance Timing: Approximately 1-1/2 hours, including one 15-minute intermission

Note: The artists will sign CDs following the performance, in the States Gallery outside of the Terrace Theater.
