About

"Nature and Music" is this program's theme, offering works inspired by Boulder's natural beauty and exploring how the orchestra responds to its location. The concert features Stephen Lias's All the Songs that Nature Sings, a Boulder Philharmonic commission with projected photographic images of the Rocky Mountains commemorating the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. The program also includes the mandolin concerto From the Blue Ridge, composed by and featuring mandolinist Jeff Midkiff, plus Steve Heitzeg's "Winter: Ghosts of the Grasslands" from his Symphony to the Prairie Farm. The concert finale is Copland's Appalachian Spring, presented with projections and the aerialist dance troupe Frequent Flyers.
