Last at the Kennedy Center in 2013, this "intellectually, emotionally, and musically rich" (Minneapolis Star Tribune) eight-member men's vocal ensemble is known worldwide for its trademark warmth and engaging performances. Working without a conductor, the members of Cantus rehearse and perform as chamber musicians, each contributing to the entirety of the artistic process. The Washington Post hails the ensemble's sound as having both "exalting finesse" and "expressive power" and refers to its music-making as "spontaneous grace." The group returns with its exciting Holiday program Three Tales of Christmas.
Notes from Joseph "Yossi" Kalichstein, Artistic Director of Fortas
Some traditions are almost sacred. To hear the unique, pure, and ethereal sound of an a cappella chamber chorus (that is, without instrumental accompaniment) has become one of these traditions for our audiences around holiday times. This year, we are going to be uplifted by this small, yet extraordinary, all-male wonder from Minnesota in a Christmas program.
