Masterpieces abound in this stirring all-Bach program! Canadian ensemble Les Violons du Roy, directed by Bernard Labadie, takes its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French kings at Versailles, and is known for its "robust, rich-hued readings" (The New York Times) of classic works. They welcome guest soloist Isabelle Faust, who is renowned for her musical talent and deep understanding of a composer's intentions. Her highly lauded 2013 Bach concert in London contained "nods to historical authenticity" yet also had a "modern sensibility," all with "beautiful results" (The Guardian).
Notes from Joseph "Yossi" Kalichstein, Artistic Director of Fortas
There is something about Bach and springtime; I cannot think of another composer who embodies positive life force and the sheer joy of existing in the same way. The great Canadian chamber group Les Violons du Roy is sending a fantastic Bach gift package our way, with the composer's monumental Passacaglia, a slice from his Art of the Fugue, and with Isabelle Faust, a bouquet of some of his beloved violin concerti.
