Before drummer Louis Hayes went on to play with jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie and George Benson, he was an 18-year-old playing in the quintet of legendary pianist and composer Horace Silver. Hayes presents music from his 2017 Blue Note album Serenade for Silver, a tribute to the bandleader who first introduced him to the jazz world through recordings with Blue Note Records.

Performance Timing: 75 minutes, with no intermission.

Note: Louis Hayes will sign CDs following the 9 p.m. performances on Jan. 19 and 20, in the States Gallery outside of the KC Jazz Club.
