About

Celebrating 90 vibrant years, saxophonist and NEA Jazz Master Lee Konitz (born Oct. 13, 1927) returns to the Kennedy Center following his 2017 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert to Ira Gitler in April. Along with his trio, Konitz will perform selections from two new albums released by Impulse! Records in 2017. In an era heavily influenced by the sounds of Charlie Parker, Konitz established himself as the first alto saxophonist to create a recognizably distinct style in cool tones. With an insatiable musical curiosity, Konitz has performed alongside musicians such as Miles Davis and Charlie Haden.

Performance Timing: 75 minutes, with no intermission.
