About

Something’s coming, something good…

The 2019 Grammy®–nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album West Side Story Reimagined is coming to the Kennedy Center! With an all-new instrumental orchestration of lively Latin jazz, electrifying percussionist/bandleader Bobby Sanabria and the MultiVerse Big Band pay tribute to the beloved Broadway masterpiece that redefined the American musical. Experience the new album that beautifully emcompasses the violent, and heartbreaking score and truly masters the sweeping narrative of Leonard Bernstein’s tale of star-crossed lovers in Spanish Harlem.

Note: Bobby Sanabria will sign CDs following the 7 p.m. performance in the States Gallery outside the Terrace Theater.

Praise for West Side Story Reimagined:

"There's every reason to hope that Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story will improve upon the 1961 film, but I doubt if we'll ever hear a more thrilling interpretation of that immortal score than that of the Bobby Sanabria Multiverse Big Band."

—Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal

"This is what the music for West Side Story should have sounded like, sparkling with the music of El Barrio. Bandleader, educator and drummer Bobby Sanabria and his crew hit the nail on the head so perfectly that he got buy-in from original composer Leonard Bernstein's family. That's how good this album is."
—Felix Contreras, NPR Alt Latino
