This vibrant young trio was founded in January 1998 by three students at Philadelphia's famed Curtis Institute of Music: American pianist Benjamin Hochman, English Violinist Sara Bitlloch, and Spanish cellist Miguel Angel Clares. Since winning Second prize at last year's International Chamber Music Competition in Melbourne, Australia, the trio has signed a recording contract with Naxos and performed to acclaim at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and in France, Israel, and Spain. Mentored by Isaac Stern, the group was selected for the Fortas Concerts by Joseph Kalichstein after he was "quite taken by them" upon hearing performances at the Curtis Institute and in Jerusalem. In their Washington Debut, the trio will perform three favorites of the repertoire, including the Beethoven Trio, for which they've won great praise. "Imagination for shape and color leapt to the fore with the Mediterraneo Trio [whose pianist] could dance and sing every phrase of Schubert's Piano Trio in E-flat" (Herald Sun, Sydney).
Part of the Kennedy Center's Millennium Celebration of the Legacy and Promise of the Performing Arts.
