This season, the Fortas Chamber Music Concerts present not only two of the most famous American ensembles--the Guarneri and Orion Quartets--but the best known British chamber music ensemble. In its 36 years, the Nash has developed a vast, imaginative, innovative, and unusual repertoire that encompasses much of the 20th Century's chamber music, but most importantly, its repertoire represemts its members' personal passions. "The Nash Ensemble invariably finds a way of playing just the music it likes--fine music that is grateful to play--for it is in pleasing themselves and as true chamber musicians, playing to and for each other, they please us" (The Financial Times, London). In this program, presented in conjunction with the National Symphony Orchestra British Festival, the Nash will perform works by major British composers, including Edward Elgar's Piano Quintet, the powerful, wistful piece written as Elgar's comment on the end of the Victorian era.
Part of the Kennedy Center's Millennium Celebration of the Legacy and Promise of the Performing Arts.
