Finland has become a world center for music, turning out some of today's most remarkable, and sought after conductors, composers, singers, and instrumentalists. And in this country with what many be the world's most passionate, learned, and sophisticated devotion to music--among audiences and artists alike--the 40 members of the Tapiola Sinfonietta stand out as some of the best of the best. The ensemble has won lavish praise for its 20-plus recordings, which showcase their expertise in a broad array of music ranging from Mozart to Saint-Saens to Schoenberg, along with such Finnish composers as Einojuhani Rautavaara. Don't miss the "wonderfully fresh" (Gramaphone), "polished playing and superior sound" (American Record Guide) of this brilliant ensemble in its U.S. Debut. Joining them is pianist Ralf Gothoni, who won the Gilmore Award--a prize given by a Michigan-based foundation which searches for the most promising young musicians who have not yet gained the recognition they deserve.
Part of the Kennedy Center's Millennium Celebration of the Legacy and Promise of the Performing Arts.
