"It came to me... from a yellowhammer's song. I heard it... walking through a park in the middle of Vienna. Thus Fate knocks at the door!"
--Ludwig van Beethoven

Beginning with a stormy opening gesture--perhaps the most famous four notes in all of classical music--Beethoven's Fifth is the most iconic of all symphonies, a storied journey from darkness to a jubilant, life-affirming finale. With possible influences ranging from the glorious dreams of the French Revolution to the effortless elegance of a songbird's call, Beethoven's legendary work is an endless source of inspiration and intrigue the world over--and remains one of music's most breathtaking marvels of human creation.
