When "Summertime" comes around, get ready for a celebration of one of American music's most beloved composers. From his Broadway standards to his concert hall hits, the timeless brilliance of George Gershwin takes the spotlight in an extraordinary tribute to his enduring legacy. Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz Jason Moran puts his unique spin on some of Gershwin's most tuneful compositions on piano with guest vocalist José James. Then, Tony-nominated baritone Norm Lewis, whose "voice alone gives anyone goose bumps" (The Chicago Tribune), and soprano Alicia Hall Moran, who "finds the truth of the character in her magnificent voice" (Los Angeles Times), reprise their lead roles from the recent revival of Porgy and Bess--Lewis on Broadway, and Hall Moran, Jason's wife, on the national tour. Joined by the Heritage Signature Chorale, they'll perform sweeping selections from Gershwin's treasured masterpiece, which in the 2015–2016 season celebrates 85 years since its landmark Broadway premiere and tour to Washington.
