The Plácido Domingo Celebrity Series honors Maestro Domingo and his invaluable role in shaping the artistry of WNO, and continues the company's tradition of bringing some of the world's finest singers to Washington audiences.
Plácido Domingo conducts renowned Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, described by The Sunday Telegraph as "a force of nature," in his Washington National Opera debut. Terfel rose to prominence when he won the Lieder Prize in the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and has since performed in all the great opera houses of the world. He is especially recognized for his portrayals of Figaro and Falstaff and other major roles including Wotan, Méphistophélès, Don Giovanni, and Leporello. He is a Grammy, Classical Brit and Gramophone Award winner with a discography encompassing operas of Mozart, Wagner and Strauss, as well as more than ten solo discs including Lieder, American musical theater, Welsh songs and sacred repertory.
